Catching up with the "ville

So last Friday night was the Band Booster's Spaghetti Supper with music provided by the "Sportscoat Jazz Explosion".  When you work it, provide a salad or dessert or are a member of the Jazz band you receive points.  When the it is all over the number of points earned is divided into the profit and your band account is credited with your earnings.  I spent 2.5 hours on Thursday chopping the vegetables for the Veggie sauce (minus the 15 lbs of onions which was done by MaryK), 2 hours on Friday morning helping make the sauce for 600 servings, then spent 7 hours at the school from 1:30 to 8:30 getting ready for and then actually working at the supper.  I came home very tired and happy this was my very last one. I thought back and I think this was my 10th supper.  Alix was in Band in 6th grade and my best friends had older kids in Band that year and would have asked for volunteer help in this new (its been going on for 11 years now) endeavor.

Our weather has been on a roller coaster.  Last week we were in single digits, today it was 50.  Right now it is dropping like a stone and should be in the 20s or lower in the morning.  The wind is blowing 30-50 mph with gusts much higher.  Today the reservoir had much open water and it was quiet.  On Saturday the ice was groaning as I walked around the reservoir.

Kent has a 4:15 wakeup call in the morning.  I will wake him up, go back to bed and then check the tv at 6:30 for school closings before I get Jake up.

Solitude

Mom and Daddy having gone back to Michigan last Saturday and Kent at therapy this morning, I was alone with the dogs as we did our routine walk. I had the park to myself, the dogs and the squirrels. It was cold, there was a skim of ice over 95% of the water and the sky was that wintery grey, pale blue that is so distinctive. As I marched along I thought as nice as it is to have conversation while we walk its not so bad to be able to walk along and think about stuff. I thought of many things, one of which was I hoped my brother enjoyed his Tony Dungy signed book that he finally(!) received.

Today Alix is leaving to go back to school. This time at home has been good. She fit back into our lives a bit smoother than last year. Hopefully this coming and going will get to be routine and not as wrenching as it is right now.

Today also holds Mom's latest cat scan. We will all pray that it remains clear and she can continue with her healing.
