Finally Fall

The weather is finally appropriate for the season. After a 5 month drought we finally got some rain in October. Apparently the trees decided not to drop leaves now that they had water to use for photosynthesis. Here it is a week into Nov and most of our leaves are still green even though we've had temps in the low 30s.

We've had a hawk in our neighborhood for over a month now. One day he even sat on Mom and Dad's bird feeder for several minutes giving us a good long stare. Yesterday as I crossed the yard after our walk I saw 2 hawks in our front yard. They swooped around a bit then flew off to the trees at Liberty Park. With all the bird feeders around this neighborhood they will have plenty of prey to eat. If they would only eat the Grackles instead of the song birds! Or the rabbits of which we have an abundance

Last Saturday was Eagle Project day. It was a bit chilly to start with but got nicer as the day progressed. We had 29 helpers who worked a total of 149 hours to get the project completed. It being a picnic shelter in the little park down the street from our house. It is the original park for the city and is used mostly by the kids in the apartment building across the street. The tables serve as a lunchroom for workers from the factory on the other side of the street.
