90 in the shade

Whew! I just came back from the cottage where the parents informed me that it was 90. I disagreed as I had been mowing and it didn't feel quite that warm. WRONG! It is that warm according to our thermometer too. Last week we had the 3 "ice men" in May. (Our old neighbor used to say not to plant until after the 3 ice men in May.) Which was her way of saying to expect at least 3 very cold (relatively) days or more typically nights during May. Well we have had nice weather, it was even dry and warm for the carnival this year. But last week it was in the low 40s 3 nights in a row. Well it got over that in a hurry!

Kent has discovered the very best clothes to wear while he is gardening. From his backpacking in NM last year he acquired a lightweight long sleeved "wicking" shirt and a hat of the same material. The hat also has a long flap on the back (think desert headgear) which covers up his neck. He knows he isn't setting any fashion statement but at least he isn't burning either.

Charles G. Martin was called "mean and evil'' before he was sentenced to life in prison today for the murder of a 15-year-old neighbor who stepped on his lawn. Martin said he was sorry but did not apologize.
