Better than Basketball

Refer back to previous post for the explanation of the title. We in Indiana have the best football team around. We never open our newspapers to find that one of them has been arrested. Unlike our unfortnate basketball team. Gary Varvel the cartoonist for the Indy Star took the photo from the last post and gave it a very accurate takeoff. Enjoy!

The day after.....

Wow! That's about all I can say. What a classy team with a classy owner, classy coach and classy players! We watched the game in the lobby of the Omni Hotel in Indy. Our rooms were on the 11th floor right below the penthouses. We had a great view of the old dome and part of the south western edge of town. Jake and Kent killed time before the game swimming but I hung out in the lobby trying to figure out the best place to watch the game. All seating was reserved - you had to guarantee spending hundreds of dollars in food and drink to get them. So we stood the entire game which was okay because if we were at the stadium we would have stood most of the game anyway!
We had brought the radio/tape player to record the radio broadcast. (We live too far to pick it up from home and the local announcer is the one you hear on the ESPN highlights of the end of the Patriots game screaming "We're going to the Super Bowl." ) I used a bunch of 60 minutes tapes we had on hand so that meant a trip to the room every 30 minutes to flip it. On one of those occasions ran into a woman who looked really familiar and she had that same look, "how do I know you?" When it dawned on us both at the same time that she and her husband sit in front of us at the games. And they were staying on the same floor as us so we saw them all night.
After it was over, Jake went outside to celebrate with other knuckleheads (It was 4 degrees F). He went in and out twice and then convinced us to walk over to Monument Circle where the outdoor celebrating seemed to be congregating. We were thoroughly frozen when we got back!
One of the best parts came in the morning when we checked out... the bill was $32, $23 for parking and $9 bar bill. We had stayed as a part of a promotion called "Chicago pays." The Omni in Chicago paid for all the guests in Indy on that promotion. The hotel was full.

Super Bowl Sunday

It is 8:00 and I feel like a kid on Christmas morning. I'm so excited I can't hardly stand it! It's Faith Promise Mission Sunday at church today so we have lots of stuff to do. But as soon as church is over (11:00) we are bailing and heading for Indy. Don't know yet where we are watching the game, but we are staying at the Omni tonight, if the Colts win it will be free. There was an entire page in Friday's paper with all the special deals for watching tonight.
Speaking of which, can the NFL be more out of touch then going after churches for showing the game on projection tv to their congregations? It was really ironic as the bars and resturants were advertising "giant 100 inch screens" etc in their ads on Friday.
