Sorry I haven't gotten to this earlier, it has been a very strange day here. I was so excited last night that I watched the whole game over again, and didn't start doing so until 1:00am! Needless to say today has been slow, spent recuperating my nerves and reading all things Colts. Jake got home from his campout around 1:30 surprised to see his cousin Jen. Jen is 31 days older than Jake and they share the same initials. We had determined we had to leave by 3:00 to have time to eat but we wanted to leave as much time as possible just in case they canceled the tryouts. We came up with plan B. We would leave and if Jake got the call, he would call us and we would met at some yet to be determined point. (The advantages of having a driver and an extra car.) We left and approximately 3 minutes after reaching I-74 the cell phone rang. It was Jake and he would meet us at the Truck Stop 5 miles west! We got into Indy and our normal parking structure was full but our backup still had lots of spots. We ate and then walked to the game. Kent walked us to security, then went to the Hard Rock Cafe. Everywhere there was blue jerseys, Colts logos, and horseshoes. The buildings were lit up with blue floods or spotlights and everyone was excited. Jen not being the least bit shy was slapping hands with every Pat fan she saw. We parted ways at security (hats off, coats and purses open, and pat downs). We were an hour early but it was as packed as it could be on the Plaza and at the doors. We got to our seats and Jen immediately took off her coat so all could see her jersey and superbowl beads. All of the regulars were behind us, but all of the others on our side of the aisle and near us were newbies. When they realized we had a New England fan with us the razzing began. I explained that her father had always shared a ticket with us during the playoffs and we were returning the favor. But everytime she uttered a sound the guy behind her would say shhh! to her, it was really funny! There really weren't very many NE fans there. Our section is notorious for selling tickets but if they did it was to Colts fans. I told Kent I had never heard it that quiet during our Offensive drives, nor that loud during their Offense! Last year the Steelrs accused the Colts of piping in noise. It offended all of us 12th men and women so much that we consider it a high compliment when were are accused of doing it. One of the newspaper reporters said the new stadium will need to ready this fall as he's pretty sure we roared the roof of the dome! (I don't know how the TV gets the sound muffled down during their broadcast, it definately is much louder than you hear on the broadcasts.)
The game? It was unbelievable. Unbelievably: loud, hot, exciting, nerve racking, heartbreaking, and finally, finally vindicating! We knew they could do it, It is our time!
We felt a bit sorry for Jen, she really was bummed, but it was our turn to revel.
On the ride home we listened to the post game show and one thing that Dungy said really rang a bell with both Kent and I. He said he is absolutely thrilled to be going to the Super Bowl and battling it out with: a friend, a fellow Afro-American coach and another Christian. We are looking forward to celebrating the I-65 Bowl with our Oak Park family.
