Good men

Just another neat article. Was Peyton too worried to watch or was he praying?

a new trick

http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070123/COLUMNISTS01/701230390

I am going to attempt to link to this article in today's paper. If that doesn't work will copy to this page. This touches on something I talked about yesterday; Tony Dungy and what a great man he is.

Funny but true story: When he was first given the job as head coach the only thing I knew about him was that his uncle was our UMC District Superintendent and I had driven him and our Pastor, Charles to the Indy airport when they went on a pilgrimage to Israel

Part 2

Sorry I haven't gotten to this earlier, it has been a very strange day here. I was so excited last night that I watched the whole game over again, and didn't start doing so until 1:00am! Needless to say today has been slow, spent recuperating my nerves and reading all things Colts. Jake got home from his campout around 1:30 surprised to see his cousin Jen. Jen is 31 days older than Jake and they share the same initials. We had determined we had to leave by 3:00 to have time to eat but we wanted to leave as much time as possible just in case they canceled the tryouts. We came up with plan B. We would leave and if Jake got the call, he would call us and we would met at some yet to be determined point. (The advantages of having a driver and an extra car.) We left and approximately 3 minutes after reaching I-74 the cell phone rang. It was Jake and he would meet us at the Truck Stop 5 miles west! We got into Indy and our normal parking structure was full but our backup still had lots of spots. We ate and then walked to the game. Kent walked us to security, then went to the Hard Rock Cafe. Everywhere there was blue jerseys, Colts logos, and horseshoes. The buildings were lit up with blue floods or spotlights and everyone was excited. Jen not being the least bit shy was slapping hands with every Pat fan she saw. We parted ways at security (hats off, coats and purses open, and pat downs). We were an hour early but it was as packed as it could be on the Plaza and at the doors. We got to our seats and Jen immediately took off her coat so all could see her jersey and superbowl beads. All of the regulars were behind us, but all of the others on our side of the aisle and near us were newbies. When they realized we had a New England fan with us the razzing began. I explained that her father had always shared a ticket with us during the playoffs and we were returning the favor. But everytime she uttered a sound the guy behind her would say shhh! to her, it was really funny! There really weren't very many NE fans there. Our section is notorious for selling tickets but if they did it was to Colts fans. I told Kent I had never heard it that quiet during our Offensive drives, nor that loud during their Offense! Last year the Steelrs accused the Colts of piping in noise. It offended all of us 12th men and women so much that we consider it a high compliment when were are accused of doing it. One of the newspaper reporters said the new stadium will need to ready this fall as he's pretty sure we roared the roof of the dome! (I don't know how the TV gets the sound muffled down during their broadcast, it definately is much louder than you hear on the broadcasts.)

The game? It was unbelievable. Unbelievably: loud, hot, exciting, nerve racking, heartbreaking, and finally, finally vindicating! We knew they could do it, It is our time!

We felt a bit sorry for Jen, she really was bummed, but it was our turn to revel.

On the ride home we listened to the post game show and one thing that Dungy said really rang a bell with both Kent and I. He said he is absolutely thrilled to be going to the Super Bowl and battling it out with: a friend, a fellow Afro-American coach and another Christian. We are looking forward to celebrating the I-65 Bowl with our Oak Park family.

Game Day Part One

I'm starting this at noon on the day of the big game. We woke to 4 inches of snow, our first of the winter. It will make navigating to the game a bit messy and possibly tricky. We did get out a while ago and I-74 looks okay. Jake is still at the winter rondevous should be home soon. If they didn't get delayed from the weather, it looks like the camp was in the sleet area which will really slow them down. He came home Tuesday with the news that he has honor band tryouts tonight in Milan at 5:30. The kickoff for the game in Indy (70 minutes of driving away) is 6:30. We were disgusted and wondering what to do with the extra ticket. Bright idea on Friday evening, offer it to Wayne or one 0f his kids. So now it will be us and Jen (A diehard Patriot fan) at the game. But knowing how rapid the school is to cancel all activities when the roads are bad, we are thinking it is possible that the tryouts will be canceled. In that case it will be me and the kids at the game and Kent in a bar watching it on TV. Let you know more later.

A River Runs Through It

It has been raining here for several days. Our basement (of course) is just about as wet as it has ever been. Our front yard has a river running through it to a culvert at the end of the yard. If we don't want a lake out front we have to periodically scrape debris from the grate so the water can get through. We just came form coffee at Mom's house. The rain gauge out front has 2.5 inches in it; last night at the end of the Seattle/Bears game :( it had .5. I would call that a steady rainfall to collect 2 inches in about 18 hours.

Jake and I had gone over to the cottage on a mercy errand. Mom had gone to Goodwill in the middle of the afternoon. For some reason Daddy needed to put on pants (whether he had taken a nap or needed to change them I don't know). In the course of putting them on he fell and landed jammed between the closet doors and the step we made for him to get in and out of bed. The step is so heavy that he couldn't budge it so he just laid there until Mom got back. She called and Jake was able to get him up. Its a bit concerting; Mom can not get him up at all. I suggested that he needs to carry the cell phone (around his neck if need be) but was scoffed at by them. She thinks if he falls again that they will need to get First Alert. Suddenly those commercials that we have all made fun over the years don't seem so funny.

Woo-Hoo!!!!!!!!!

Colts vs. Patriots at the Dome at 6:30 next Sunday.

After yesterday's game and the Colts upset of the Ravens, our newspaper said it best: "Now they get to sit home and root for New England, which just doesn't feel right on any level." Our household was a reluctant NE fanbase for approximately 28.5 hours. Although Kent just could not get into it, figuring that no matter what happened we were ahead. Jake having been to 2 AFC championship games in NE with unfortunate results isn't that excited (yet) about going, but I am. I am ready to scream my lungs out, wear my jersey (which will it be: defense [Freeney] or offense [Saturday]? and hat. Go Colts!!!!!! And I will remember to take my blood pressure pill!

Finally, some D in InDy!

What a great game yesterday! From the beginning with the "12th man" singing the National Anthem to the final kneel downs to end the game. Half time was spectacular with a salute to the troops which is always a popular show in our neck of the woods!
