Weekend Update
What a weekend we had here in the 'ville. Mark and Debbi drove in for a late lunch on Friday afternoon. We got the preliminary work done; i.e. deciding what jobs to tackle on Mom's honey-do list, purchasing supplies, exchanging news, consuming barley-pops. We broke off in time to see the Homecoming parade where J blows a mean horn. Then we made our reservation at the "WINE all you want CAFE". It was a mini celebration for the 2 who become "half full" this fall. The food was good as usual and we motored off to the High School for Homecoming. The game was going great:34-zip when at about 3 minutes left in the first half, lightning was sighted off in the distance. As soon as the officials saw it, the game was called. (In Indiana they have to wait 30 minutes after the last bolt is observed to restart the game. And apparently they decided they didn't even need to reschedule the game, mercy, mercy.) So we returned home and continued to talk and enjoy each others company until quite late. The rest of the weekend was more productive, most of the things on the list were marked off, or a solution was found for them. This week I will continue the painting, which I held off doing so M and D didn't have to sleep with paint fumes, and maybe even get to the weeding of plant beds. K will be paying for his nice stretch of days off with a nice stretch of days on, 14 out of the next 16. Ouch!
We said goodbye to M and D. Then we watched some kick-ass football! K was so happy yesterday, as over Sunday and Monday, the Colts won, the Patriots lost (!), his beloved Tigers have made it into the playoffs for the first time in 19 years, and New Orleans won!

Sold

Mom closed on the house Friday the 8th. They spent the night in their new domain, which i have decided is "the cottage" but K calls "the little house." Their new couch was delivered Friday afternoon and the cable still works so Dad was able to relax while we made plans on what needed to be done. Mom has left a half sheet of notebook paper completely full with "chores" to do before they get back. And it doesn't include the ones like mow the grass or rake! Most of them will be for K to do, I will strip some wallpaper in the bathroom and paint the formica backsplash. We have some furniture to redo or paint and that will be that. K is going to plumb in an all house filter and an RO filter. He was under the house in the crawl space last night checking out the existing plumbing when he saw 2 mice, so DeCON will also come into play.

Time well wasted

Since Kent has been gone on a four day trip and Jake has been in school I have had this week pretty much to myself and the dogs. I have enjoyed time well wasted indeed. Did all my jobs that were lined up in a queue and then started on some new ones. Since the girl has been gone now a week, I felt I could attack her room and get away with it. This was sparked by her request to send my stash of embroidery floss up to her so that she might earn money mending other people's clothes. A good idea so I looked all over the house for the book of floss, finally venturing into her domain. To find the floss I had to root through foot tall piles of "stuff" which lay like mines on an Iraqi highway. After a few minutes I grabbed a black garbage bag (40 gallon) and started throwing trash out. The bag is jammed full and I have an auxiliary box full of more trash. All her grad cards, books, clothes (not many as she took almost all she considers wearable with her), art supplies, art projects, my cds, my jewelry are put away. I think I will be able to vacuum in there with only minor problems. I even got under her bed!
Then I started on the bathroom. Several years ago, to stem arguments, she was granted total control over the full bath and Jake started using ours. Of course he has reverted back to "his" own this week. I spent several hours in there today, putting away her things and cleaning. He came back from walking in two parades handing out campaign material for our Republican Congressman to find a pristine bathroom. He said it was "barren". Then when I asked him to take a suitcase and old aquarium up to the attic, he accused me of wanting all the house to be "barren." I said I had gotten rid of the cluttermonster and he said he would have to step up and take her place!
